Amazingly, physical evidence from the crime still survives. Colt was already making a lot of money with the Browning-designed Model 19 and his new pistol didn’t seem to offer enough to sidetrack a top seller already in full production. This gun was John Browning’s most advanced pocket pistol to date when he presented it to Colt, but they passed on the new patent. The weapon he used was a six-shot FN Model 1910 Browning chambered in.
Serial #474195, 7.65mm (.32 ACP), 3 3/8” barrel with an excellent, bright bore.This is a very unusual, matching numbered pistol that has the normal commercial FN markings, but with the raised front and rear sights as found on the Dutch Ministry of Finance Contract guns.The metal retains 97-98% of the original blue finish that has some mild silvering at the muzzle and also has some minor fading along a few of the high and exposed edges.The almost black checkered “FN” horn grips are in very good condition with some very minor flattening of the points and noticeable insect damage on both panels.A single “FN” marked magazine is included.The Dutch Contract pistols were the only Model 1900s to utilize raised sights without the milled sighting channel found on virtually all of the other examples made.Their presence on this commercial example is probably the result of using surplus Dutch Contract parts as clean-up.This is an excellent example of a highly unusual Model 1910 Browning and would make a great addition to any collection.The spark that ignited the fuse leading to World War I was the assassination of the heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire on June 28, 1914, in the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo by 19-year-old Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip.
