(BTW, I know dozens of hams who haven't done CW in years and can't, anymore). The argot, the shorthand, the Q codes, and especially the abbreviations made necessary by CW hand-keying. Here's what I'm up to with CW: 1) I have lots of friends who shy away from ham radio for the 2 reasons that might be obvious: CW was required, and a LOT of hams of our aquaintence are elitist snobs.Ģ) now that the CW requirement is removed, people like me - attarcted to the idea but repelled by the above - are getting 'in'.ģ) I'm an English major and the ham culture and the CW sub-culture have a lot of linguistic interest. Code has been VERY hard for me - been working on it for 30 yrs now and still only up to about 15 wpm or so. Is that what you're looking for? Good luck - but NOT the way to learn code. Then with a mic lying next to the speaker, the input to the sound card would allow CWGet to receive what was being sent by CWType. Had CWType to 'send' the code over the computer speaker - I could hear the code. Receiving would be easy - they just listen to the sound made - and it can come over the computer speaker into a mic input to the sound card - I've done that. IF you just wish to play with computer CW without learning - then I think there are several programs that 'should' do the trick - like CWGet and CWtype - I think they 'could' be made to work. My next question: are there actually folks on EchoLink using CW? OR are you trying to start a CW group on EchoLink? Download the G4FON program and learn from there.

If you want to use the Internet to access Ham Radio, go for it! I think it's a great idea.KD0BVQ - if your desire for CW on EchoLink is to learn CW - I agree with the other folks - wrong way to learn. Saying that the Internet is not a radio shouldn't be considered an insult to people who use it. The first and last half miles are running (read "radio") but the 25 miles in the middle are just a motorcycle (read "Internet"). Running a half a mile, riding a motorcycle for 25 miles, and running another half mile for a total of 26 miles doesn not constitute running a marathon. Someday when I get the time, I'll probably play with Echolink.īut I won't consider the Internet portion of it to be radio because it isn't radio.

Nobody is putting down guys who use Echolink. Click to expand.I agree that there are many "Usual Suspects" who love to flame other people on here, but I've not seen "analog guys" looking down their noses at "digital guys." People sending packet, pactor, amtor, psk31, etc.
